Earlier today, the American Antitrust Institute (AAI) announced its selection of leading legal practitioners and economists to be recognized at the AAI 2015 Antitrust Enforcement Awards.
Goldman Scarlato & Penny partner Brian D. Penny was named a finalist for the award of Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer. Mr. Penny received this honor in connection with his success as co-lead counsel in litigating Allen et al v. Realcomp II Ltd., et al.
The Realcomp class action involved claims that consumers seeking to sell their homes in the Detroit area were harmed when traditional real estate brokers in the region conspired with the multi-listing service in the Southeastern Michigan real estate market to restrain the ability of “innovative” brokers from competing for listings and sales. Mr. Penny helped navigate the litigation through contentious legal and economic issues, achieving certification of a litigation class along the way to negotiating a settlement that achieved substantial relief for the class.
The award for the nation’s Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer will be presented at a reception following the AAI’s annual Private Antitrust Enforcement Conference in Washington, D.C. on November 18, 2015.
